How to integrate well in a new destination?

How to integrate well in a new destination?

Here is an article written by one our ambassadors, Coralie, who comes from Martigny. She is currently in Bristol with us. Coralie has decided to give us some advice on how to integrate in a new culture, destination and country.

In this blog you will find some tips that can help you integrate well or better. Don’t forget one really important thing, HAVE FUN, ENJOY IT!

Before your travel if you want easier learn:

  • Try to watch some TV program, YouTube videos, podcast, in the new language.

  • Listen the radio. Listen to some music with the subtitles like that you can understand the lyrics.

  • Make some exercise with « Duolingo », « Busuu », and a lot of other applications for learn a new language.

During the travel:

  • My first advice is going in activities organized by the EF School.

  • My second advice is talking with people. You can go in coffee, some public’s places or where you can find new people, speaking with waiters and try to make some orders or questions in the new language for you.

  • Don’t be shy. I know it’s easy to say, but speak, learn, have fun, enjoy your journey and it will be better.

  • Make an inscription in a sport center, a band, a team or a lot of other organizations.

  • You can go in your application EF, and add new students from your school, like that you can meet new people that make the same experience as you.

  • You must discover the county, other cities.

  • One of the most important things is speaking in the language of your new county, if you don’t make that, you can learn faster.

After the travel:

  • Don’t forget to practice, because a language can be lost if you don’t practice.

  • Continue to look some YouTube videos and TV channel.

  • Travel, abroad. It’s important to continue discover other countries.
