Posizione delle preposizioni nelle proposizioni relative

Le proposizioni relative contengono spesso delle preposizioni e un pronome relativo che è l'oggetto di tale preposizione. Nell'inglese colloquiale, la preposizione viene normalmente collocata al termine della frase mentre il pronome può essere specificato od omesso. Nell'inglese formale, la preposizione si colloca prima del pronome relativo; in questo caso esso non può essere omesso. Nei seguenti esempi i pronomi tra parentesi possono essere omessi.

The jungle (that) the tribe lived in was full of strange and unusual animals. The jungle in which the tribe lived was full of strange and unusual animals.
